My  Story

My teaching journey started when I tutored pre-calculus students as a senior in high school. The teacher I was tutoring for actually taught me pre-calculus, calculus 1, and calculus 2, which explains why I love math so much. He inspired me to pursue teaching math and not even months after graduation I was meeting with an advisor about joining UTeach. I am now in my 4th year in the program and I have loved every second of it.

Teaching History

August 2018 - December 2020

Peer Mentor, UTeach Step 1 & 2

In my role as a peer mentor I had to show up to several classes every week where we prepared students to go out and teach lessons at elementary and middle schools. I assisted an instructor in teaching a course, gained office skills, helped write/give feedback on lessons, and held office hours for students to seek help with lessons.

Indirect Trainer, H-E-B Central Texas

I teach a course called Checking Skills for H-E-B partners in central Texas. Not only do I teach how to be a cashier but also H-E-B culture and what it means to bring partners, customers, and the community into that culture.

Student in Field-Based Course, UTeach Austin

The UTeach program is an 18hr program in which I teach at an elementary, middle, and high school to gain teaching experience. We learn about teaching strategies, inquiry lessons, project-based instruction, equity in education, incorporating history into lessons, and many other tools to help us succeed.

"To improve academic achievement, it is critical that Texas elevate the status of the teaching profession, strengthen the existing pool of aspiring teachers, and inspire our most talented high school graduates to consider a career in teaching."
